How acupuncture works
As an ancient Chinese medicinal practice, acupuncture directly targets imbalances in the body’s Qi (or energy flow) by applying pressure to specific points across the body. Using ultra-thin needles, our orthopedic-trained acupuncturists insert needles into specific pressure points based on your diagnosis, discomfort, and health goals.
Once inserted, these needles interrupt the current flow of your Qi and trigger your central nervous system to release endorphins, the chemical in your body that is a natural pain reliever and mood booster to your muscles, brain, and spinal cord. Your body has 2,000 acupuncture points that can trigger biochemical changes and tap into your body’s internal ability to self-heal.
Medical / neurofunctional acupuncture is a precise technique that involves manual or electronic stimulation of the needles, administered at specific neuro-reactive sites with the purpose of neuromodulation — the influence of the nervous system to regulate itself in response to both internal and external stimuli.
A neurofunctional approach is tailored to the most common dysfunctions and injuries associated with pain: biomechanical, neurological, muscular, and psychoemotional. It is meant to allow the nervous system to self-regulate, which then promotes positive change at a neurological, cellular, and metabolic level.

What it can include
A full intake of your symptoms, history, and goals to guide where and how needles are placed.
Ultra-thin needles placed at specific neuro-reactive points based on your diagnosis and discomfort.
Ear seeding used between sessions to extend the effect of your treatment when appropriate.
Cupping added when it fits your presentation to support circulation and tissue recovery.
A realistic follow-up rhythm, often one to two visits per week, matched to your condition and its severity.
Every plan begins with an evaluation. Dr. Ashley maps what your first visits include and why.
This service sits inside a full spectrum model: chiropractic care, soft tissue work, rehabilitation thinking, education, and wellness support are connected rather than treated as isolated menu items.
Patients reach Sinar from Bryant Park, Grand Central, Herald Square, NoMad, Murray Hill, Flatiron, and Chelsea. Care is planned around real New York schedules: long workdays, walking commutes, travel, and compressed recovery windows, with a plain next step after every visit.
